Here is the Dinosaur cake I did for my neice Savannah. She wanted a pink dinosaur cake. So her mom compramised with her and asked me to make the cake part strawberry. So I used a "Bakers Secret" pan. It is as Deep as a cake pan, but almost as big as a cookie sheet. I used two normal strawberry cake mixes baked seperately. Chocolate frosting for the base, and butter cream frosting for the trim.
I got the dinosaur set at our local Macey's grocery store for $5.00. I put first cake down and frosted it, then put little candies on top of the frosting. Then I put the other cake on top of that and frosted with the chocolate frosting again. The River part is blue decorating gel. I spread it out with a butter knife, and then put blue sugar sprinkels on and then put more blue gel on in a striped motion to make it look more rippley. Then I put all the dinosaur stuff on, and then made the butter cream frosting. The butter cream frosting was supposed to be a light pink, to enunciate the "pink dinosaur cake" idea, and I had it a nice pink color, but then I had the "bright idea" to put raspberry extract in it. The weirdest, most unexpected thing happened! My pink frosting turned bright white!!!! So I tried adding more pink food coloring back in, and the only color I get it back to was this light peach. I think it turned out better that way though, because it matches the sand color under the palm trees. I had more dinosaurs for the cake but my daughter decided to run off with them and lost them. Sorry Savannah!!
The dinosaur eggs in the back of the cake are just decorating candies that you get with the sprinkles and stuff. They are also the candies that I put in between the layers of cake. They are like fruit flavored cinnimon red hots. I have the cake sitting on tinfoil wrapped onto an upsidedown cookie sheet. Oh, ya and I sprinkled green sugar sprinkles too, for little bits of greenery in the land scape.
